Checkout 51 App Review: Scam Or Legitimate Easy Cash?
Checkout 51 is a very popular app that pays you to upload receipts of your grocery shopping. A few of my readers have asked if this app is a scam, since they’ve seen me review a similar app called Ibotta.
Checkout 51 is not a scam, it’s a completely legitimate app that pays you for purchasing certain items at your local grocery store. Although it’s scam free, there’s some issues I have with the app, but don’t worry I’ll cover them all in this review.

In this Checkout 51 Review I gave them a good score. I’ve used this app a bit and it’s really good. They have a bunch of offers available and I really like that there’s no store restrictions, meaning you can buy items at pretty much any store.
The major complaint I have with Checkout 51 is that they only pay via check at this time. Who wants to wait on a check when they could easily pay you via PayPal or Direct Deposit.
Overall, it’s a really good app to get paid cash back for your shopping, but I think I still prefer Ibotta because of the easy payments. If you don’t mind getting paid by check than Checkout 51 is perfect for you!
How Does Checkout 51 Work?
What Items/Offers Are Available?
Most of the items available for cash back offers are grocery items. You’ll see some generic offers such as buy a carton of milk and brand specific offers. Although most offers are grocery items you’ll find some health/beauty products, and alcohol offers available.
Most offers pay from $.25-$5 depending on what you need to buy. The generic offers pay less and brand specific items usually pay more.
Uploading Receipts For Cash Back
Once you sign up you’ll see a full list of offers available, you’ll need to go to any store and purchase the product. The receipt must have:
- Store Name
- Store Address
- Date
- Itemized List
- Price Paid
Make sure to keep your receipt after checkout! Once you have your receipt you can easily scan the receipt using the camera inside the app. Make sure to take a picture of the whole receipt, if the receipt is long it’s fine to take multiple pictures.
Once you have a clear picture of your receipt, click upload. Checkout 51 will review your receipt and credit your account for your cash back purchases within 24 hours, but usually much sooner.
What Stores Are Available?
The best part about Checkout 51 is that you can purchase products at any store that gives you an itemized receipt. For example you can purchase a listed product at Walmart, Target, or any other store and still get credit for purchasing the item.
*Some offers are store specific, but there’s very few of these.
How Does Checkout 51 Pay?
At this time the only way to get paid by Checkout 51 is by mailed check. You can request a check once you earn $20 inside the app. I can’t find exactly how long it takes to get your check, but I have been paid by them once before and I believe it was 7-14 days after cashing out.
*You’ll be prompted to enter your address once you cash out so don’t freak out if you haven’t given them your address yet.
Checkout 51 Complaints
Mailed Check Only
Really the only major complaint I have with Checkout 51 is that they only pay via mailed check. I really wish they offered PayPal or Direct Deposit as payments methods. Those usually pay within 24 hours, but with mailed check you will be waiting a bit for you check to arrive.
From what I remember it was just a few weeks, so it’s not as bad as some other online companies and apps!
No Referral Program
If you’re someone who likes to tell your friends about ways you’re making money and make some cash off them, you won’t be able to with Checkout 51. Checkout 51 does not have a referral program at this time. All of your earnings will need to come from your cash back shopping.

The Checkout 51 App is not a scam, it’s a completely legitimate app that pays you cash back for shopping. As long as you don’t mind getting paid via check, Checkout 51 is a really good shopping app to get involved with.
